Engagement Session

Black and White Engagement Photos in Raleigh & Durham

From the second Amanda told me she wanted mostly black and white images for their engagement session, I was sold. There’s something timeless, emotive, and editorial about stripping color away — and Amanda and Ethan absolutely owned it. For this session, we split locations between their cozy home in Durham and the sleek, modern architecture of the Raleigh Art Museum. It was the perfect way to get variety, texture, and vibe — all in one shoot. And yes, of course, I brought along my black and white film for my camera too. If you’re considering black and white engagement photos in Raleigh Durham, let this be your nudge to go for it.

Part One – At-Home Engagement Photos in Durham

There’s something extra special about photographing couples in their home — especially when it feels this personal and relaxed. Amanda and Ethan’s space was full of sweet little details, great light, and a whole lot of chemistry. We captured them cuddled up on the couch, kissing by their favorite board games, and laughing like they’ve known each other forever (because they have). The black and white tones brought out so much emotion and intimacy.

Part Two – Engagement Photos at the North Carolina Museum of Art

After a quick outfit change, we headed to the North Carolina Museum of Art for a completely different vibe. The clean lines, modern architecture, and wide open spaces made the perfect contrast to the cozy at-home photos. They have effortlessly cool energy — together they gave “editorial but make it engagement shoot” energy. Some of my favorite frames came from the way the black and white film played with the shadows around the museum. Subtle, cinematic, and full of movement.

Why Choose Two Locations for Your Engagement Session?

Amanda and Ethan’s session is the perfect example of how switching locations (and outfits!) can completely elevate your engagement photos. It’s a chance to capture both ends of your dynamic! From the quiet, intimate side and the bold, stylish one. It also gives you way more variety to choose from when printing photos or designing a wedding website.

And if you’re into black and white engagement photos in Raleigh Durham, choosing different backdrops can really help tell the full story of your love — and give you the editorial moment of your dreams while still feeling like you.
